Fables By Arnold Lobel
Reading Level: K-4
Genre: Fable
Awards: Caldecott Medal, New York Times Outstanding Book of the Year, ALA Notable Children's Book, Library of Congress Children's Books
A collection of fables written and illustrated by Arnold Lobel. The fables are charming and funny and each has a moral of the story written at the bottom of the page.
This book would be a great tool to introduce the fable genre. After talking about fables as a genre you could have activities where your students write their own fables incorporating the characteristics of a fable or you could have your students come up with alternate morals to the fables that you read.
