The Talented Clementine By Sara Pennypacker

Reading Level: 3-5
Genre: Realistic

Clementine is a precocious 3rd grader whose teacher has just told her class that all the third and fourth graders are going to have a talent show to raise money for a big spring trip.  Everyone loves the idea, except Clementine.  The problem is that Clementine has exactly zero talents.  She can't play an instrument, she can't sing, she can't dance and to add to Clementine's pain everyone else seems to have a plethora of talents.  As the talent show gets closer Clementine still doesn't have a talent, will the show be able to go on for Clementine?

With this book you could have a great discussion about how everyone has talents and have you students put on a talent show for the class.  Each student could either choose to perform or if they don't want to perform you could give them jobs helping to run the talent show like Clementine had in the book.  This would show the students that it takes a whole class to run something like this and it could be a great way to build the classroom unity.  To make the talent show extra special you could invite the principal to come in and watch the talent show or even invite parents to watch as well.
